Buckling Analysis of Open Top Tanks with a Top Stiffening Ring Subjected to Wind Load
This work is to study the wind-induced buckling behavior of open top tanks with a top stiffening ring.Firstly, the buckling behavior of the tank subjected to wind load is analyzed. The results present that the buckling shape mainly happens on the windward side close to the top edge of the shell, while the deflections at other places are not evident.Then.comparisons between the model with a top stiffening ring and the model with no stiffening ring are made.It is observed that the top stiffening ring has a remarkable stiffening effect on wind load carrying capacity of the tank. Finally, parametric studies are conducted on structure parameters affecting the critical wind pressure of the tank.including the height-to-radius ratio and the radius-to-thickness ratio. The results show that for the height-to-radius ratio, the critical wind pressure decreases more and more slightly with the increasing h/r ratio. For the radius-to-thickness ratio, the critical wind pressure decreases more and more mildly with the r/t ratio on the increase.
