Elasto-plastic Buckling Analysis for Cylindrical Steel Tanks under Harmonic Settlement
In this work,the elasto-plastic buckling behavior for cylindrical steel tanks subjected to harmonic settlement is investigated.Firstly,the buckling behavior of open top tanks for diverse wave numbers is reported.Then,the results are compared with that for the material elastic model.The results show that the buckling mode predicted by the two material models nearly displays the similar behavior.Besides,for a small wave number,the critical harmonic settlement predicted by the material elasto-plastic model is a little larger than that obtained by the material elastic model.However,for large wave number,the critical harmonic settlements for both material models are nearly the same.Finally,the effect of material elasto-plastic model on the imperfection sensitivity of the tank is conducted.It is found that the buckling strength of the tank predicted by the material elasto-plastic model decreases with the amplitude of the imperfection.Moreover,compared with the material elastic model,material elasto-plastic model can reduce the imperfection sensitivity of the tank.
