Experimental Investigation of Sound Transmission and Vibration Characteristics of a Double Glazed Structure
Double glazed structures are widely used in noise control applications when good sound insulation characteristics have to be achieved. However, the acoustic performance of those double glazed structures deteriorates rapidly at low frequency around the mass-air-mass resonance (double structures resonance),where it can be even became worse than that of a single plate. The ability of the double glazed structures to provide significant sound transmission loss at low frequencies is nevertheless very important. In this paper, the results of experimental sound transmission characteristics and modal testing of a double glazed window were presented. The laboratory experiments were performed placing the window by placing the double glazed window between two reverberation rooms and measurement of the sound transmission loss characteristics.Furthermore, the experimental modal analysis has been performed using shaker and accelerometer as actuator and sensor. The Least square complex exponential algorithm is used to extract the modal parameters,i.e.mode shapes, natural frequencies and modal damping ratio of the structure. These results should be useful for updating mathematical models of glazed window for calculation and prediction of sound transmission loss in a low frequency ranges.
