Selection of Modal Order Based on Modal Participation Factor in Optimal Sensor Placement
Optimal sensor placement is an important part in structural health monitoring.Selection of modal order has a tremendous impact on the result of optimal sensor placement. In the existed method, the first several lower-order modes are chosen to simulate dynamic responses, however the high-order modes which have big dynamic responses may be neglected. In order to solve this problem,a selection of modal order based on modal participation factor in optimal sensor placement is presented in the paper. This approach firstly needs to do the modal analysis of the structures. Then, modal participation factor are computed and modal orders should be sorted by their modal participation factors. Finally, the number of selected modal order are determined by modal participating mass ratio.A case study is provided to verify the strategy in this paper, and expert experience method is used as a contrast experiment.Comparison shows that the result of optimal sensor placement using modal participation factor for modal order selection is better in modal assurance criterion and modal energy criterion.
