Numerical Study of the Effect of Non-condensable Gases(NCG) on Gas-liquid Two-phase Flow Characteristics in the Journal Bearing

Journal bearing is an important component of heavy rotary machinery, such as gas turbine.steam turbine and compressor, supporting the heavy load. The micro-flow nature directly determined the static and dynamic characteristics and influence the equipment performance.A micro-channel film model of double oil grooved round slid bearing has been developed in this paper. The effect of dissolved non-condensable gases (mainly air) on pressure distribution of oil film and cavitation zone has also been analysed based on CFD methods which combined the mixture model and cavitation model(include the effect of non-condensable gases). We found that there existed an critical value.when exceed, the oil vapor volume fraction will increase rapidly, causing the deterioration of supported characteristics.and bearing capacity will drop sharply.
