Experimental Simulation of River Transformation and Development
The formation and transformation of river patterns is one of the basic problems of river evolution. First, on microscopic scales, this paper analyzed the causes of meandering rivers and put forward the influencing factors of different river patterns on the basis of extensive research. Second, through large flume experiment, this paper studied the developed process of sediment deposition area with river formation and made four following conclusions. 1) The sediment deposition process is expanded with fan-shape. 2) The wandering frequency and amplitude both increase in large flow. 3) With the transformation of different river patterns, river regime also alternatively develops with law of stable, unstable and extremely unstable. 4) River is easy to change when the ratio of transverse and longitudinal gradient ratio is larger than two. Third, the paper has chosen the discriminated index of river transformation.
