Flood propagation time calculation method based on hypsometric curve and its application for Changjiang River Watershed
The flood propagation time (FPT) to the outlet of watershed is related with some characteristics of watershed. FPT calculation method based on the gravitation driven principle and hypsometric curve was applied to acquire FPT of Changjiang River Watershed (CRW). The results show that FPT of the 53 sub-basins in CRW obtained by ArcGIS have obvious relationship with the characteristics of sub-basin, the FPT calculated by the method based on hypsometric curve coincided with FPT calculated by the empirical formula. Meanwhile, the statistic parameters of hypsometric curve can be used to explain the surface erosion and geomorphology condition in CRW. The research could be used for studying the relationship of the hydrological response with watershed geomorphology and real-time flood forecast.
