Analysis on fractal characteristics of Dalian water ecosystem

  Water resource has been in deficient in Dalian, which has constrained the local economic development seriously and caused water shortage and other environmental problems. As the water ecosystem has a typical fractal characteristic, fractal theory can be applied to help to master the structure, mechanism, as well as the layout of the entire water system effectively. Based on fractal theory, this paper analyzed Dalian water ecosystem characteristics, revealed its spatial structure, and pointed out the structural reasons and remaining problems of regional water network accordingly. Using box- counting method, this work calculated the fractal dimension of Dalian, which was 1.1393. Further study calculated fractal dimensions of districts, and conducted a preliminary study on the Dalian regional water system analysis in order to provide some reference to its urban water eco-planning.
