Integrated carbon footprint calculation for large hydropower construction
Hydropower plant construction will emit GHG directly by energy and material consumption, meanwhile, the induced water pollution, soil erosion and human habitat destruction during construction will also contribute to GHG emission indirectly. In this paper, an integrated carbon footprint accounting system was established for large hydropower, which considered both the direct and indirect carbon emission during the hydropower construction process. This accounting system can realize the environment impact assessment on hydropower projects with a reasonable and uniform unit. In the case of Zhikong project in Tibet, China, carbon footprint achieved 1.89*1012 gCO2eq during construction.
