Effects of urbanization on river health in Taihu Basin--Huzhou in Hangjiahu Area as an example
Taihu basin is one of the most economically developed areas in current China, but fast growth and urbanization brought a huge impact to the watershed underlying surface and the river system, and resulted in a lot of problems such as rapid deterioration of the river ecology and environment, so the river health problems have began to attract extensive attention recently. Take Huzhou of Hangjiahu Area in Taihu basin as an example, this paper analyzed changes in land use/cover surface of the watershed underlying surface and problems of river basin flood and water environment caused by these changes during the process of urbanization in this area; it also considered the economic value, environmental value, and social value of the river comprehensively from the viewpoint of river health, explored the changes of river health factors during the process of urbanization, including the morphological structure of the river, water quality, water volume, aquatic organism, and situation of riparian zone, etc... and analyzed the effects of urbanization on regional river heath. On this basis, this paper discussed the countermeasures of maintaining river health and sustainable economic development. Through all of above investigation, this paper is believed to make important contribution in protecting the river health, water resources and water environment in high-speed urbanization regions.
