Investigation on Freezing Process Characteristics of Daily-temperature Seasonally Freezing Silty Clay

  It is the freezing characteristics of soil mass that is significant to railway slop engineering, especially to passenger special rail line project in the deep seasonally frozen ground, Northeast China.Freezing tests were performed to study the seasonally freezing characteristics on undisturbed silty clay cylinders in deep seasonal ly frozen ground, under the two kinds of simulating daily-temperature seasonally freezing ways, i.e.the dai ly-average-temperature freezing way and the daily-wave-temperature freezing way.Experimental results indi cate that the freezing process of the freezing silty clay test with water content 23% was exactly similar to that with water content 30% through the whole freezing process under the same freezing way; the frost-heave rate of waving freezing test developed slower than that of daily-average-temperature freezing test under the same experimental condition.The frost-heave amount process of the daily-average-temperature freezing test rose very fast but that of the daily-wave-temperature freezing test developed relatively slowly.The influence of frost heave on railroad slope engineering must be considered and there should be a reduction factor of frost heave estimation by the daily-average-temperature freezing test.Daily-wave-temperature freezing way should be applied to simulate the seasonally freezing to research the freezing process characteristics of seasonally silty clay for a railway slope project in deep seasonally frozen region.
