Nonlinear Seismic Analysis of Buried Pipeline

In this paper, on the basis of a shaking table test of a buried pipeline under non-uniform earthquake wave excitation, a hysteretic model reflecting the axial interaction between soil and pipe is proposed. Then a pseudo static analytic method based on the finite element is developed to calculate the nonlinear seismic re sponse of the pipeline. In this method, the pipeline is modeled as a beam element, which is supported by axial springs and transverse springs, representing the interaction between soil and pipe.Meanwhile, the cor responding program is developed to calculate the nonlinear performance of the pipeline system. In addition to the consideration of the above proposed hysteretic model, the program also takes account of the nonlinear characteristics of the pipe joint. Finally, an example is investigated using the above developed program.By comparison, it indicates that the analytic results match well with the results of the experiment in the aspects such as the strain history of the pipe.
