Field Measurement on Bending Stress of the Large-diameter Main Cable
To determine thebending stress and simultaneous deflection due to the bending stiffness of the cable on each side of the tower saddle, field measurement of strain and deflection were made on section of the main cable of long-span suspension bridge in the stiffening girder erecting process.The test includes strain of the cross-section of the main cable, displacement and inclination.Sensor measuring positions and installation methods are introduced.The test data were compared with the calculated results by finite element model with different cable element types.The results showed that in the process of stiffening girder lifting, bending stress is obvious in the cable with bending stiffness, and also have a certain influence on deformation of the main cable.Comparison of the test results and calculated results show that the computational model cannot accurately simulate the mechanical properties of this part of the main cable.
