Flexural Behavior of RC Beams Strengthened with Basalt FRP Grids
This paper investigates the flexural behavior of RC beams strengthened with basalt fiber reinforced poly mer (BFRP) grids. The mechanical properties of BFRP grids were first identified through an experimental investigation including a tensile test of a single segment of grid cut from the grids along one direction ; the in fluence of thickness of the grids was clarified. The debonding fracture energy was further obtained through bonding test. The flexural behavior of RC beam externally strengthened with this type of BFRP grids were in vestigated through a four-point bending test.A total of seven beams were tested including four beams strengthened with BFRP grids, two strengthened with BFRP grids with end anchorage U-jacket BFRP sheets, and one control beam. The ultimate strength and the ultimate deformability of the beams were improved.Debonding from the concrete at both ends of all strengthened beams was not observed in this study ; the re sults showed the advantages of using BFRP grids as an innovative strengthening material for its mechanical and bond properties.
