Effect of Walking Load Model on TMD in Reducing Floor Vibration
This paper investigates the effect of walking load models on TMD in reducing floor vibration through nu merical analysis on single-degree-of-freedom system (SDOF) with TMD devices.Six popular walking load models have been employed. The responses of the SDOF system to six load models are calculated and com pared in terms of peak values. It is found that the maximum difference among all the models is 20% or 1 ~3 times, indicating that a proper walking load model is crucial for the effectiveness of the TMD device.Based on the acceleration response spectrums with TMD and without TMD, the response reduction coefficients are obtained. The results show that the reduction coefficient curves have substantially the same tendency for dif ferent walking load models anda TMD (mass ratio 5%) is able to achieve 60% to 80% response mitigation when the natural frequency of the main structure is in multiples of the step frequency. The influence of struc ture damping on effectiveness of TMD is also analyzed. It shows that the damping ratio of main structure has a great impact on the efficiency of TMD and it is suitable to use TMD to control excessive vibration of low damoed structures.
