Estimation of Oscillation Amplitudes of Rectangular Cylinders at Combined VIV and Galloping-Part Ⅱ:Empirical Formula
Part 1 of the companion papers shows that side ratio B/D of rectangular cross section is the key parame ter on the determination of the oscillation amplitude of soft galloping response.By the regression analysis on a group of comprehensively collected data, the mathematical relations between the side ratio and the line ar slope of oscillation amplitude is developed.The oscillation amplitude is generally observed to be in in versely proportional to the side ratio.However, the onset velocities of such kind of coupling case between vortex-induced vibration and galloping used to be determined by Strouhal law.Therefore, the empirical am plitude estimation formula for the coupling cases of Vortex-induced vibration (VIV) and galloping on rectan gular cylinders is reasonably obtained.
