Infiltration and Erosion Processes on Three Loess Soil Materials Under Simulated Rainfall

Under simulated rainfall lasting 70 min at 100 mm h4,runoff- and sediment-yielding processes in three loessial plots (heavy, medium and light soil respectively) were studied on a slope of 10ia.Two rainfall processes were simulated: rainfallowith antecedent soil moisture of 110 g kg1 for dry run and rainfall co with nearly water saturated soil for wet run.The results showed that the Horton model was more effective in describing three soil-infiltrating processes than the modified Philip model and Kostiakov equation.Antecedent soil moisture had no significant influence on infiltration for heavy soil slope-land,but notable influence on medium and light soils. In rainfall co,medium soil plot yielded much more sediment than those of heavy and light soil plots, and this was due to the initiation and development of rills on medium soil plot.In rainfall co,sheet, rill and collapse erosion took place on the plots of heavy soil, medium and light soil respectively.Medium and light soil plots yielded almost same sediment, but there was clear difference in sediment yielding processes.Sediment yield of light soil and medium soil plots in rainfall co were respectively 3.5 and 15 times as much as those in rainfall co,while there was no significant difference for heavy soil plot between two rainfalls.
