Resource Preparation of Poly-silicic-ferric Coagulant from Fly Ash Extract:Characteristics, Simultaneous Removal Efficiency

A poly-silicic-ferric coagulant was prepared using fly ash extract as main raw material, and was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM),Infrared Spectroscopy (IR) and X-ray Dif-fraction (XRD).Simultaneous removal efficiency during coagulation process in treating simulated lead wastewater by poly-silicic-ferric coagulant was investigated compared to that by Poly ferric phosphate sulfate (PFPS).The results indicated that poly-silicic-ferric coagulant has better coagulation performance than PFPS: poly-silicic-ferric coagulant gave the greatest Pb2+ and color removal of 90% and 90% over the whole dosage range, respectively,in comparison with 70% and 80% by PFPS.Poly-silicic-ferric coagulant has greater capability of destabilization for pollutants than PFPS.The amount of positive charge carried by the hydrolysis products of poly-silicic-ferric coagulant was more than that of PFPS.Pb2+ removal mechanism by poly-silicic-ferric coagulant was a comprehensive action of coagulation and chemical reaction.
