Treatment of Azo Dye Wastewater by Pulsed High-Voltage Hybrid Gas-Liquid Discharge

Pulsed high-voltage electrical discharge was used in treating azo dye (Acid Orange Ⅱ,A07) wastewater.Effects of initial pH,Fe2+ concentration, discharge mode, conductivity of initial aqueous solution and the type of bubbling gas (air,02,N2) on A07 degradation were studied.Exposed a plate in air and emerged needles in liquid,a new gas-liquid discharge (NGL) is proved to be more effective than gas-liquid discharge (GL) and liquid discharge (L).The lower conductivity of aqueous solution and the higher oxygen concentration in bubbled gas were benefit to degradation process. In addition, owing to the multi-point structure and self-provided Fe2+,iron mesh-plate discharge showed the more competitive degradation performance than multi-needle-plate discharge.By using NGL with iron mesh and bubbled air in the reactor, the degradation of A07 was up to 85.8% when initial pH value, conductivity and Fe2+ concentration were 2.28,200μS/cm and 1.635mM,respectively.
