Pilot Study on Seawater Pretreatment Using Hollow Fiber Microfiltration Membrane

Microfiltration/Ultrafiltration technology has been gradually accepted as a feasible pretreatment for desalination of seawater RO membrane. However, application of these technologies is still not prevalent considering the issues of membrane integrity and the fouling caused by various components, such as the organics and colloidal and microorganisms in the seawater.Membrane technology is developing very rapidly and is gradually regarded one efficient and economic pretreatment for some cases.HYDRAcapTMMAX,the 10 inch diameter hollow fiber membrane module introduced by Hydranautics, were also used for this seawater pretreatment application. This paper presents some pilot test results of seawater pretreatment by using this new type hollow fiber membrane for seawater at some locations.
