Characteristic of removal polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from water by nanofiltration:effect of ionic strength and pH
PAHs,which have a disrupting effects on human s health, are increasingly noticed in aquatic environment. And it is essential to find an efficient way to remove PAHs from water.By contrast, nanofiltration technology is a better way than traditional methods. This paper offered a study on the impact of ionic strength and pH on the PAHs (naphthalene, phenanthrene and fluoranthene) removal by nanofiltration membrane. The water was used to nanofiltrate in the laboratory cross-flow membrane filtration unit. The experimental results indicated that there was a higher flux by BDXN-70 nanofiltration membrane than by BDXN-90 nanofiltration membrane and the rejection of PAHs was relatively efficiency for BDXN-70 membrane. The water background inorganic matter (pH,and ionic strength) effected the flux and PAHs rejections. The trace PAHs in water could be better rejected (rejections were more than 95%) by nanofiltration membrane stability at acidic solutions. There was little influence of rejection on different ionic strength except naphthalene. The lowest of naphthalene rejection in different ionic strength was 86%.
