Formation of Ordered Honeycomb-structured Polyphenylsulfone Films by Water-droplet Templating
Polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) is known as a membrane material with superior mechanical strength,thermo-stability and chemical resistance. The ordered honeycomb-structured PPSU films were prepared in a highly humid atmosphere by water droplet templating method which is one of the great development in the field of molecular self-assemble.Solvent,polymer concentration and additive have been studied, which were found to be important factors in the formation of honeycomb-structured PPSU films. The results of scanning electron microscope showed that with the increase of polymer concentration from 20 g/L to 80 g/L,average pore size of films first ascended from 4.4 to 11.1 μm from the polymer concentration of 20 g/L to 40 g/L and then decreased to 8.9 μm at 50 g/L and finally increased and remained stable around 11.3 μm with further increasing in polymer concentration which ranged from 60 g/L to 80 g/L.As for solvent, compared with CH2Cl2and CH2C12/CHC13,CHCl3was the better solvent.Acetone was used as an additive and with the ratio of acetone/CHCl3 increasing from 0.1:20 to 0.5:20,the pore sizes of films enlarged from 8.9 μm to 13.3μm and the number of pores cut down.
