Assay Methods of Heterotrophic Active Biomass in Activated Sludge
Heterotrophic active biomass (HAB) is an important parameter in process design and kinetic simulation models of wastewater treatment.However,this parameter has not been measured directly due to the lack of simple,stable,and reliable assay methods.In this paper three experimental assay techniques including Fluorescence assay,ATP determination and OURend (endogenous respiration) measurement were used to access HAB in activated sludge.While the good correspondence between endogenous respiration rate (OURend) and mixed liquor volatile suspended solids (MLVSS),but it requires study more on the relationship of fluorescent light and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) content.
