Dynamic Properties of Si-Mn TRIP Steels at High Strain Rate

Using Si-Mn DP steels as the reference system,Si-Mn TRIP steels were investigated in the present work to study the microstructure evolution and dynamic mechanical properties under high strain-rate deformations. Results show that the tensile strength increased with increasing strain rate and the fracture elongation increased due to the adiabatic heating in DP steels. In TRIP steels, the tensile strength increased with increasing strain rate while the fracture elongation decreased at first and then increased. However, the ductility of TRIP steels under high strain rates was relatively low than that of quasi-static due to the effect of gradual transformation of retained austenite was inhibited. The adiabatic heating produced during high strain-rate deformation was higher in TRIP steels and it is suggested that the extra heat originated from the latent heating of martensitic transformation in TRIP steels during dynamic deformation.
