Development of Ultra Formable 340MPa High Strength Steel for Automotive Inner and Outer Panels
As a special concern in global environmental problems has been raised, the endeavors for the weight reduction of car-body have been steadily increased. The usage of the higher strength materials is an effective way to reduce the weight of car-body.The manufacturing technologies of high strength steel with the superior formability are required more specific concepts because the increase of strength normally results in the decrease of formability. In this study, the effects of chemical compositions and processing conditions on the mechanical properties including r-value were investigated for Ti/Nb added IF steels. The mean r-value was improved by optimizing Ti and P contents, which would be probably related to the scavenging and precipitates effects. The ?-fiber(ND//<111>) texture components which are beneficial to the formability became stronger with the increase of P content. It seems that this phenomenon would be attributed to the refined grains in hot-band which came from the favored nucleation site of 111 textures. The steels with the higher P contents have many nucleation sites of the strong ?-fiber recrystallization textures. It is expected that the weight of the panels such as side outer, fender, members etc.can be reduced by substituting from the conventional IF mild steel to this newly-developed ultra formable HSS.
