Absorption Features of chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) and Tracing Implication for dissolved organic matter (DOC) in Changjiang Estuary,China

Chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) represents the light absorbing fraction of dissolved organic carbon (DOC).The optical properties of CDOM are potentially used as a tracer of DOC in coastal zone, and thus permit remote sensing of DOC.In this study, samples were collected from 4 cruises around Changjiang Estuary. Both CDOM absorption coefficient at wavelength (a( λ )) and absorption spectral slop ( Sg ) display conservative behavior, suggesting that the controlling factors of distribution of CDOM is the conservative diffusion of Changjiang Diluted Water and Sg is better than a(λ) to express index absorption attenuation degree.Inversion model of DOC demonstrates that CDOM optical properties are potential indices for the routine or near time monitoring DOC concentration from space which may open a door to an estimation of land source DOC input budget to East China Sea.
