Upper ocean response to typhoon Bolaven analyzed with Argo profiling floats

In situ observations from Argo profiling floats combined with satellite retrieved SST and rain rate are used to analyze the upper ocean response to typhoon Bolaven between 20 and 28 August 2012.The upper ocean heat content changes on both sides of the typhoon track are also discussed in this paper. After the passage of Bolaven, the response in the ocean mixed layer included the deepening of MLD,and the cooling of MLT,while the change of MLS did not show the obvious tendentiousness because the salinity change in the mixed layer was influenced by precipitation, evaporation, turbulent mixing and upwelling of thermocline water. The deepening of MLD and cooling of MLT indicated a significant rightward bias, whereas MLS was freshened to the left side of the typhoon track and increased on the other side.Floats on the left side of the typhoon track observed about 26.6-33.7 dbar of the deepening of MLD,which could persist for 4-6 days, while it showed more significant deepening of MLD and cooling in the mixed layer to the right of the typhoon. The dissolved oxygen concentration observed by Argo float increased slightly and could last for at least one week.
