Laboratory modeling of the internal solitary waves over a continental shelf slop

A series of fundamental experiments on generation and propagation of the internal solitary waves (ISWs) over a continental shelf slope are conducted under two-layered fluid in the laboratory water tank which has a size of 5m*0.15m*0.4m.Generally speaking, there are two main factors which govern the experiments, namely the ratio of water thickness and the amplitude of the incident ISWs which is controlled by changing the initial step depthη0 in the area producing the incident waves.Concerning the ratio of thickness, factors include that of the upper fresh water H1 (the density is 1.00 g/cm3) and of the lower salty water H2 (the density is 1.02 g/cm3) under the condition that the total thickness of both is constant,0.31m.
