Standing-progressive Rossby waves in the sea and ocean
The hypothesis is adduced that really prevailing over the ocean are the standing-progressive gradient-vortex waves of Rossby. These waves can be discovered by analysis of the satellite altimetry maps showing a system of node lines where sea-surface level does not vary, but the sea level oscillation phase becomes 180 grad changed at once. The node lines form a pattern of cells, and the progressive waves of Rossby propagate between the nodes of cells.Average estimates of the parameters of the in-study waves are obtained: wavelengths, periods, phase velocities of the wave between nodes,as well the node-to-node distances in the northwestern Pacific Ocean,on the base of the altimetry data series for 1992-2009..
