The long-term trends of the coastal upwelling along the southeastern coast of Korea

To investigate long-term trends of the costal upwelling along the southeastern coast of Korea, daily surface temperature at Gampo and hourly wind at Busan of more than 40 years were analyzed.Upwelling signals was defined by temperature drop from the pre-fitted temperature. These signals were closely related to the southwesterly blowing parallel to the coast.Upwelling index was positive from April to August with the maximum in July.A linear trend of the index for spring from March to May was increased. However, the trend for the summer was decreased. These results are due to the surface atmospheric pressure change. In summer, southwesterly were weakened. However,it has gradually increased, and north wind has tended to decrease in spring.
