Fabrication of Multi-purpose Geodesic Dismountable Bamboo Dome
Bamboo is a low cost, locally available and environment friendly building material for housing in rural and tribal areas.The compressive and tensile strengths of bamboo are much higher than that of many blends of concrete.This paper presents the design and fabrication of a dismountable multi-purpose dome for potential rural applications.A geodesic dome is a spherical or partial-spherical shell structure or lattice shell based on a network of great circles (geodesics) lying on the surface of a sphere.The system of connectors is chosen in such a manner so as to allow for flexibility at the joints yet providing a rigid framework.L-plates have been used in pairs to fixate the structure to the ground giving it wind-resistant features.It is of prime utility in disaster prone regions as it can be easily assembled and disassembled when required.
