INVESTIGATING THE POTENTIAL OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY STORAGE IN COMBINATION WITH WIND FARMS,LABORELEC DEVELOPED A FIRST SIMULATOR FOR STORAGE SIZING AND PROFIT QUANTIFICATION
It is today still difficult to mak e an accurate day-ahead forecas ting of the energy that will be produced by a wind farm.To couple energy storage sys tems to large wind farms can solve most of the problems related to this unpredictability 1.Laborelec dev eloped a simulation tool called Wind Storage Simulator (WSS) in order to quantify what would be the profit and to mak e a pre-sizing of the storage system for different scenarios.These scenarios can be to reduce the unbalance between nomination (forecas t power) and actual production,to reduce the lost energy due to grid congestion,to optimize the production on the electricity spot mark et or to contribute to gr id service systems.This tool is based on real character istics of storage technologies,on real historical wind farm production profiles and on real data of the grid codes and electricity markets.
