In Vitro Antioxidant Activity Evaluation and Basic Chemical Characterization of Polysaccharides from the Fruiting Body of Pheilinus pini

Mushrooms are important natural sources of various nutritional and biological components.Recently, researches on medicinal mushrooms are becoming a foucus for their special biological activities with antitumor, antioxidant, immunomodulating, antidiabetic, antiinflammatory, and hepatoprotective. This paper studies the in vitro antioxidant activity and basic chemical characterization of polysaccharides from the fruiting bodies of Phellinus pini, and aimed to provide clues for the further development and utilization of Phellinus pini.Three fractions of crude polysaccharides (PP30,PP60 and PP80) were obtained from the fruiting bodies of Phellinus pini by boiling-water extraction and precipitation at different concentrations of ethanol. The three methods namely DPPH,ABTS and FRAP of in vitro antioxidant test were applied to evaluated the activities of these polysaccharides. The results showed that all the three fractions of polysaccharides from Phellinus pini had antioxidant activities, and PP80 exhibited a more potent antioxidant activity.Furthermore, the basic chemical compositions including monosaccharide, total sugars, reducing sugars, proteins, uronic acids of the three polysaccharides were analyzed. The PP30 and PP80 were totally composed of glucose,PP60 were composed both glucose (82.46%) and galactose (17.54%).
