A Study on Antihyperglycaemic Mechanisms of An Aceteoside Polymer from Rose Flowers and A Polysaccharide-Protein Complex From Abalone Mushrooms

In the present study, the effects of the antioxidant components of rose Rosa rugosa Thunb (P1-b) and abalone mushroom Pleurotus abalonus (LB-1 b) on the plasma glucose level and expression of insulin, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and pancreas duodenum homeobox factor-1 (PDX-1) in pancreas were investigated in alloxan-induced diabetic mice.Oral administration of these components produced significant reduction in plasma glucose level after 15 days.In the experimental groups, the expression of insulin,SOD and PDX-1 estimated by real-time PCR was increased.Additonally, the reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging ability of the rose component was notably stronger than the abalone mushroom component. These results demonstrate that these antioxidant components of rose and abalone mushroom may produce their antihyperglycaemic effects in experimentally induced diabetic mice through different mechanisms.
