Effects on the Growth and Antioxidant Enzymes of Ganoderma iucidum by Light Quality

  Light is essential for photosynthetic organisms,and also serves as an important environmental cue for non-photosynthetic species.It is well documented that different parts of the light spectrum modulate different aspects of fungal development and behavior.Ganoderma lucidum is a famous fungus due to the medicinal values well documented in the Chinese literature dated back nearly two thousand years.This fungus is now commercially cultivated on a large scale and the unsteady yield and quality has become the bottleneck in the facilities cultivation.As the technology used in controlling plants morphogenesis and development,it is hoped to improve the yield and quality by regulating the light quality in the cultivated G.lucidum.To provide application to the cultivation,it is necessary to find out the influences of light quality on the physiology and metabolism of G.lucidum.The effect of light quality on the growth and antioxidant enzymes activities of G.lucidum was studied in this presentation.The G.lucidum strain used here was cultured in the solar greenhouse with auto spraying system.The different light qualities including white (as the control),red,yellow,green and blue were acquired by the sunlight filtered through different color films.The fruit body shape,and the antioxidant enzymes activity including SOD (superoxide dismutase),POD (peroxidase) and CAT(catalase) were investigated by different light qualities at different stages during the development.The developmental stages of G.lucidum in this presentation were artificially divided into five periods according to the notable changes of morphology during the development:primordial differentiation stage,pre-pileus stage,pileus stage,spore-releasing stage,post-spore-releasing stage.As the spore has become the main target in the production of G.lucidum in recent years,its yield was also investigated as that of the fruit body.The thickness of the pileus of G.lucidum is significantly different among different light qualities.The sequence of the thickness of the pileus was the control,red light,blue light,green light and yellow light,respectively.The fruit body yield by white light was the highest,then green light,yellow light respectively.The spore yield by red light was the highest,up to 3.47 times of the control.The activity of SOD was the highest at the primordial differentiation stage during the development.Among different light qualities,the SOD activity by the control was the lowest at the primordial differentiation stage.Among different light qualities,the activity of POD by the blue light was the highest and the red light the lowest at the primordial differentiation stage.The activity of POD was stable during the development by the red light,but gradually decreased by other light qualities.The activities of CAT by different light qualities are similar with the control at the primordial differentiation,pre-pileus and pileus stage.At the spore-releasing stage,the activity of CAT reached its maximum.As a conclusion,the light qualities have a very significant effect on the growth and antioxidant enzymes activities of G lucidum.Different light qualities could be used to change the shape of cultivated G.lucidum.Our results showed that the red light could be used to raise the spore production.The blue light could increase the activity of the antioxidant enzymes POD and CAT so that the ability of anti-oxidation was increased.
