Taiwan Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms in Biotech-Healthcare Industry

  Last decade the edible and medicinal mushrooms in biotech-healthcare were developing rapidly,particularly the cultivation and the industry of biotechnology in Taiwan.The year value of mushrooms in 2010 was 336.6 million US and 2012 was 366 million US on this island.People commonly believe the content of polysaccharides and other functional components from mushrooms may induce human immunosystem and reduce symptoms of many diseases.Taiwan edible and medicinal mushrooms in biotech-healthcare industry are becoming popular and having highly potential in medical treatment.Many successful examples have proved the big market in Taiwan,i.e.the natural product made from black wood-ear fungus,Auricularia polytricha,by special techniques of extracting and condensing as well as the following nanotechnological process helps people to reduce weight and waist circumference,against constipation and encephalalgia,the menses come again after the climacteric,disappearance of gout due to uric acid,decrease of sticky blood,decrease of blood sugar in diabetics,disappearance of pimples and freckles,better skin,as well as decrease of cholesterol and Low Density Lipoprotein concentrations in the blood resulted from preclinical and clinical trials.Meanwhile,the endemic species,Taiwanofungus camphoratus,also known as Antrodia cinnamomea and A.camphorata,is the most famous and expensive medicinal mushroom in Taiwan.One kilogram of fresh fruiting body costs ca.ten thousand US dollars.The major application of Taiwan edible and medicinal mushrooms so far majorly focusing on anticancer and stimulating immunosystem will be introduced.
