A Solution for Nonlinear Poisson-Neumann Problem of Nb3Sn Superconducting Transport Current

The large Cable-In-Conduit Conductors (CICC) designed for the magnet coils in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) are composed of Nb3Sn superconducting multifilament composite strands.Nb3Sn is particularly sensitive to strain. To deal with the problem of the strand transport properties,a nonlinear Poisson equation is established derived from Maxwell equations and constitutive relations of superconducting composite material.Finite element method is employed to solve this nonlinear issue.Eventually, the FEM solution predicts the current transport map and critical current degradation.Compared to the classic Ekins model, this FEM scheme is able to consider the case close to actual transverse resistivity.
