A Study on Pure IL VIV of a Marine Riser in Shear Current
Marine risers are important facilities in ocean engineering field for conveying petroleum production from well head on the seabed to platform. They are usually exposed to ocean currents and encountered vortex-induced vibration (VIV) in both the direction of current (in-line,IL) and perpendicular to it (cross-flow,CF).An effective wake oscillator model for pure IL VIV prediction of marine riser in shear current is introduced in this paper. Two different kinds of van der Pol equations are used to describe the wake dynamics related to the fluctuating drag in the first and second IL VIV regions respectively. The structural governing equation for the riser is derived based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The influence of internal fluid and aspect ratio on pure IL VIV are investigated.
