BERMUDAGRASS GROWTH REGULATION WITH FLUCARBAZONE

Growth regulators are commonly used to increase turfgrass quality and reduce leaf clipping biomass.Bermudagrass growth regulation when treated with the herbicide flucarbazone has been observed.Research was conducted to evaluate flucarbazone alone and in combination with trinexapac-ethyl for turfgrass quality and clipping weight reduction in ‘Tifway’ bermudagrass.Treatments included: flucarbazone alone at 14.7 and 29.4 g ha-1,trinexapac-ethyl alone at 96.4 g ha-1,and combinations of flucarbazone and trinexapac-ethyl at 14.7 + 96.4 and 29.4 + 96.4 g ha-1.Both flucarbazone plus trinexapac-ethyl treatments reduced bermudagrass quality at 7 days after treatment (DAT); however, these treatments recovered at subsequent ratings.Trinexapac-ethyl alone and flucarbazone plus trinexapac-ethyl treatments improved bermudagrass quality at 14 and 21 DAT.All treatments reduced clipping weights more than the nontreated 7 DAT.Only flucarbazone plus trinexapac-ethyl treatments reduced bermudagrass clipping weights greater than the nontreated at 14 DAT.Trinexapac-ethyl caused an increase in clipping weights 28 DAT,whereas flucarbazone plus trinexapac-ethyl did not cause this increase in clipping weight.
