ABSORPTION AND TRANSLOCATON OF FLAZASULFURON APPLIED TO SHOOTS AND ROOTS OF LOLIUM PERENNE L.

remove over-seeded perennial ryegrass from bermudagrass.Studies were conducted to evaluate absorption and translocation of 14C flazasulfuron applied to plant roots and foliage of perennial ryegrass. Results show that for 14C flazasulfuron applied to plant foliage, leaf wash radioactivity decreases over time as treated leaf radioactivity increases, whereas for 14C flazasulfuron applied to plant roots, root wash radioactivity decreases over time as treated root and foliage radioactivity increases.Treated leaves absorb 19% of applied radioactivity, but radioactivity does not translocate out of treated leaves.Roots treated with 14C flazasulfuron absorb 41% of applied radioactivity, while 25% of applied radioactivity translocates from treated roots to foliage. The data indicates that root absorption may be an important component of flazasulfuron efficacy.
