High Speed Levitated High Temperature Superconducting Linear Drive

  The high temperature superconducting (HTS) materials including HTS bulks and tapes have innovational applications in transportation technology such as linear driving and magnetic suspension.With the combination of the HTS linear driving and HTS magnetic suspension,various hybrid HTS magnetic suspension and linear propulsion systems can be achieved,which will have both their advantages simultaneously and can be applied into various fields.In this paper,two different types of hybrid HTS magnetic levitation/suspension and linear propulsion systems have been designed for the evacuated tube transportation (ETT) and electromagnetic aircraft launch system (EMALS),respectively,and their performances have been analyzed and presented by a finite element timestepping transient method and the related experiments.This work forms a basis for the structural and electromagnetic design of a hybrid HTS magnetic suspension and linear propulsion system for the practical applications.
