New Tubular PM Machine Designs Featuring Excellent Performance with Respect to Motion Quality, Efficiency and Overload Capability
Linear drives for industrial applications are facing different demands regarding their quality of motion, efficiency and short time overload capability. In this paper two innovative permanent magnet machine designs are presented, which fit to these demands.First a Vernier topology 1 is adapted to the tubular geometry shown in Fig.1.Second a new design characterized by the coaction of magnetically decoupled single phase machines shifted geometrically against each other by 120° el.(Fig.10).The performance data of these machines are compared with conventional PMSM and PPSM designs.Four different current patterns have been investigated: 1) sinusoidal,2) efficiency optimal,3) motion quality and 4) efficiency optimal under the constraint sum of currents equal zero to adopt the drive optimal to the demands.
