On the notion of fracture locus of a ductile material
Strength theories have been around for at least two centuries motivating not only plastic yield criteria but also failure criteria for metals, polymers, ceramics, rocks etc.USAge of such theories in the context of fracture of initially crack-free bodies has been based on some definition of the failure locus, viewed as the strain-to-failure versus loading parameters. For complex stress states and under strictly proportional loadings, the fracture locus is a two dimensional surface.
