Ballistic resistance of pyramidal lattice-cored sandwich plates with ceramic prism insertions and metallic foam cladding

  The impact responses and ballistic resistance of three different types of novel hybrid-cored sandwich plate impacted by a hemispherical projectile are numerically investigated.The physical mechanis underlying the ballistic performance of a metallic pyramidal lattice-cored sandwich plate with ceramic prism insertions and void-filling epoxy resin (Type I plate) are firstly explored in terms of stress wave propagation,energy absorption,and the roles played by the front face-sheet,the hybrid-core and the back face-sheet.
