Fatigue and Fracture Education for Bridge Engineering at Changan University
In recent years,traffic load and speed on both railway and highway bridges have increased.Bridge owners and engineers are beginning to pay more attention to fatigue and fracture design for new bridge structures,the actual fatigue remaining life,service safety and maintenance intervals of existing steel and concrete bridges.However,there are fewer courses including the fatigue and fracture knowledge for bridge engineering in China universities.In order to train the undergraduate and graduate students of bridge engineering to acquire the specialized knowledge and technology of fatigue and fracture,the new course systems developed at Changan University include: (1) The fatigue and fracture design of steel bridges for undergraduate students of bridge engineering; (2) The fatigue and fracture theory and fatigue evaluation of steel bridges for graduate students of bridge engineering; (3) The fatigue design and evaluation of concrete bridges for graduate students of bridge engineering.The innovative fatigue and fracture course systems focus on teaching and training of bridge engineering students to solve the specific problems of fatigue design and assessment of steel or concrete bridges and enhancing students comprehensive engineering ability.Though past three year practice,fatigue and fracture education for bridge engineering gets good teaching effect at Changan University.
