The shading width influence on glass crack behavior under thermal radiation effect
In case of fire, window glass has the potential of fracture, which will influence the fire growth further. The temperature of shaded glass by window frame increase slower than that of exposed to fire, which could result in thermal stress focus and even fracture. Therefore, the shading width plays a key role on the glazing behaviors. In this work, the crack behaviors with different shading width were investigated by experimental and numerical methods. The shaded width is from 10 mm to 50 mm with 10 mm interval for the 600×600×6 mm3 float glass. The radiation source power is 90 kW and the temperature rising is designed from ambient temperature to 600℃ at 15℃/min heating rate. The simulation works were exactly designed same with the experiments using finite element method. Both the experimental and numerical results show that with the shading width increasing, the first crack time, the center temperature of glass at crack, the temperature difference between the exposed side and shaded side, and the crack location are influenced little by the heating rate of the radiation source.
