Degradation in strength of silica fiber-reinforced phenolic resin composite under heat flux environment
The main peculiarity of resin matrix composites is the presence of irreversible physico-chemical processes of ablation, when the composite mass decreases. Simultaneously, the microstructure and mechanical properties of the material may be changed due to thermo-decomposition and phasetransformation under high temperature. The pyrolysis reaction of resin matrix may lead to pore propagation which adversely affects the structural integrity of the composite.
