Use of Fe(Ⅱ)Fe(Ⅲ)-LDHs prepared by co-precipitation method in a heterogeneous-Fenton process for degradation of Methylene Blue
The present study focused on degradation of Methylene Blue catalyzed by Fe(Ⅱ)Fe(Ⅲ)LDHs in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The three catalysts applied in the study were prepared from co-precipitation of FeSO4·7H2O and Fe2(SO4)3 under conditions of Fe2++Fe3+=1.2 mol/L,at ratios of Fe2+/Fe3+=1∶1,1∶2 at N2 atmosphere and 1∶0 at air atmosphere. The main intermediates and products of Methylene Blue were analyzed by IC,GC-MS and LC-MS.The results indicated that all three Fe(Ⅱ)Fe(Ⅲ)-LDHs synthesized showed good catalytic activity, and the most active catalyst towards Methylene Blue decomposition was prepared at the ratio Fe2+/Fe3+=1∶0 at air atmosphere.Optimum condition for Fe(Ⅱ)Fe(Ⅲ)-LDHs/Fenton process was pH 3,and the reaction can be accelerated by increasing the catalyst dose.Degradation pathway of Methylene Blue was proposed, and it decomposed through two pathways simultaneously.Pleiocarpamine,DL-Norleucine and benzothiazole that has rarely been detected previously were observed.Heterogeneous Fenton process catalyzed by Fe(Ⅱ)Fe(Ⅲ)-LDHs could be considered an environmental friendly method for the degradation of organic compounds in aqueous solution.
