Inorganic redox reactions coupled with removal of water contaminants

The redox conversion of metallic and inorganic species is closely associated with various advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) involving Fenton-related reaction, zero valent iron, hydrogen peroxide, persulphate, etc. In this lecture,non-conventional redox processes coupled with the transformation of aquatic pollutants (e.g.,chlorinated organic compounds, arsenite) will be introduced and discussed. They include (1) iodide-mediated photooxidation of arsenite,(2)zero-valent iron and aluminum for the oxidative degradation of organic compounds, and (3) chromium/H2O2 process as a new AOP.The preoxidation of As(Ⅲ) to As(V) is a desirable process to increase the removal efficiency of arsenic in water treatment.
