Nano fabrication of nature mimicking Tree-Like photocatalysts for energy harvesting
Hydrogen (H2) is proved to be a promising clean energy for these reasons:(1) an efficient energy carrier having its highest energy density values per mass of 140 MJ/Kg; (2) H2 represents an environmental benign fuel of the future in a variety of applications,and (3) H2 can be generated on site,therefore any system that requires an energy carrier can use H2.As one of the most promising ways to generate H2,photocatalytic H2 production from water is featured as:(1) having a clean and perpetual resource of solar energy,(2) being an environmental safe technology without undesirable by-products and pollutants,and (3) being a storable form of solar energy to overcome the intermittent character and seasonal variation of solar influx.Recently,lots of efforts have been undertaken on photocatalytic H2 generation from water,wherein,catalysts play a significant role.Especially,nanostructured catalysts,demonstrated to be effective in promoting the photocatalytic H2 production with plentiful materials such as TiO2,ZnO,WO3 etc.,were developed to generate H2 from water.
